The incident happened approximately at noon on Wednesday near 2840 Kapiolani Boulevard.

A witness told authorities that the victim was bleeding from the chest and that the suspect ran across the street carrying a knife.

Emergency Medical Services treated the man at the scene and rushed him to a nearby trauma facility in critical condition. That’s where police said he later died.

HPD said Manuel was arrested at the scene and that he knew the victim. Officials added that the incident does not appear to be a random act.

Police had closed off two westbound lanes of Kapiolani Boulevard near Kaimuki High School. The roadway has since reopened.

Manuel’s bail is set at $1 million.
