Juvenile charged with arson following large brush fire on southern tip of Hawaii Island

Residents are asked to avoid the area near Wakea and Kahiki Streets.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii County police have arrested a juvenile male in connection with a brush fire in Kau that happened on Wednesday.

Authorities charged him with arson and a fireworks violation.

Firefighters said the large brush fire burned through about 15 acres.

Residents were asked to avoid the area near Wakea and Kahiki Streets as response crews worked to get the flames under control.

Officials said the fire has since been contained.
