After withdrawal, pool of finalists in the running to become HPD’s next chief shrinks to 7
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - As the search for a new Honolulu police chief drags on, another candidate has removed their name from consideration.
The police commission says the withdrawal of the unnamed applicant leaves seven semi-finalists still in the running.
That’s narrowed down from the original 19 candidates that were initially being considered.
Interim Honolulu Police Chief Rade Vanic was one of the initial candidates, but has also removed his name from consideration.
It’s been 11 months since Chief Susan Ballard retired. It took the police commission six months to hire a consultant to help with the search.
The next round of testing and interviews are scheduled for mid-May.
