Hawaii Island man arrested for murder after badly burned body found in abandoned car
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Hawaii Island man has been arrested for second-degree murder in connection with the discovery Saturday of a badly burned body in the trunk of a car.
The suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Ammon K.S. Stanley, of Puna.
Hawaii Island police said Puna patrol officers responded to Makuu Drive on Saturday about 3 p.m. after getting information that a vehicle had been set on fire with a body inside.
Officers located the vehicle with the charred remains in the bushes about 100 feet off the roadway.
Stanley was subsequently arrested at a home on 35th Avenue in Keaau. Police did not say how the suspect was connected to the victim.
The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Authorities said official identification of the victim will be done by means of DNA comparison.
