24 halau compete in Hula Kahiko at the Merrie Monarch Festival

Twenty-four halau will take the stage to celebrate the art and craft of the ancient style of hula.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - With a Miss Aloha Hula crowned, the Merrie Monarch Festival in Hilo turned to group competition Friday with Kahiko night.

On Friday, 24 halau took the stage to perform in the ancient style of hula.

Participating halau included both wahine and kane groups.
