HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A canoe stolen on Kauai in early April has been found and returned to its rightful owner.

Owner and instructor Chris Kauwe had a deep personal connection to the cherished red and yellow, 17-foot-long, three-man outrigger canoe. Over the last few years, he’s used it for events and shared it with those in the community.

When it was taken earlier in April, he was devastated.

But good news was soon to come for Kauwe who got the canoe back this weekend.

He said an anonymous tip was sent to police, and they eventually found the canoe covered under a tarp in an empty lot next to a home. It was also partially painted.

Kauwe said he was elated to have it back. He will touch up the canoe before getting it back out onto the water. He adds he was extremely grateful for everyone who kept an eye out.
