Corpuz got off to a hot start in the cool Ewa Beach morning, snagging three birdies in her first five holes.

An important start for the former Trojan, knowing that she would be facing the longest course on Oahu.

“Yeah definitely, I think the longer holes are typically at the end of each nine, so I kind of came out knowing like my birdie opportunities are really kind of right off the bat.” Corpuz told reporters following her round. “So it was really nice to get off to a really good start today.”

Corpuz, thankful that she had a successful front nine as winds started picking up towards the afternoon hours.

The Kapolei native also using her knowledge of growing up and playing on the west side to her advantage.

The LPGA rookie finished her round at 2-under par for a strong showing in her home state, looking to keep the momentum going into day two.

The local girl hoping to show out in front of the ones that mean the most to her.

“Playing in this event is so special to me.” Corpuz said. “It’s definitely an event that I came out to when was growing up every year and it’s just really special to have a lot of friends and family out here supporting me as well.”

Australia’s Hannah Green is the leader of the pack going into round two with a final 6-under par in the first 18 holes.
