HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 28-year-old Oahu man has been guilty of first-degree terroristic threatening after he threatened his stepdaughter with a shotgun during an argument.

A jury convicted Dennis Muralles Juanta on Thursday.

The case stems from an incident in March 2021. Prosecutors said Juanta went as far as firing his shotgun into the air to terrorize his stepdaughter.

Juanta, a diver with the Navy, faces up to five years behind bars.

City Prosecutor Steve Alm said he’s pleased with the verdict and commends the victim for coming forward. “As a member of our military, Muralles Juanta betrayed the nation’s trust with this dangerous act,” he said.

Juanta is set to be sentenced July 11.
