HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The state Department said it has ordered Lahaina’s Fu Lin Chinese Restaurant to immediately shut down as it addresses a cockroach infestation and unsafe food prep protocols.

The restaurant at 1312 Front St. got a red placard April 4.

Health Department officials said a routine inspection that day found:

  • About two dozen cockroaches throughout the kitchen
  • A cat in the kitchen
  • Rodent droppings
  • A lack of sanitizer in the mechanical dishwasher
  • Improper temperatures for storing foods

A follow-up inspection found a live rat in the front bar and more roach activity.

The establishment will remain closed until the Health Department clears it to open. DOH said the establishment must bring in a professional pest control contractor and take other steps.

The next follow up inspection is scheduled for April 11.
