The weekend will be a gusty one, with strong trade winds bringing showers to windward and mauka areas, with some of those showers pushed to leeward sections of the smaller islands. Afternoon showers are still possible for the Kona slopes of Hawaii Island. Winds are expected to decrease and shower chances are forecast to increase at the beginning of the coming week.

A high surf advisory is posted until 6 p.m. for the north and west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai and the north shores of Maui, with waves in the 10-15 foot range for north shores. The swell has been coming in a few feet above forecast levels, and the advisory may be extended into the overnight hours. Rough surf is rising for east shores due to the strong trades, with small background swells bringing some small waves for south shores. For mariners, a small craft advisory is posted for all coastal waters.
