HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Police are investigating a head-on crash fronting Sea Life Park on Thursday night that left a 77-year-old woman dead and a second woman, 75, in serious condition.

The crash happened about 6:45 p.m. on Kalanianaole Highway, shutting the roadway down in both directions.

Police said the 77-year-old was driving a Toyota sedan when, for unknown reasons, she veered over the double solid yellow lines and sideswipes a Toyota pickup truck driven by an 18-year-old woman.

The sedan then continued and crashed head on into a Honda sedan operated by a 75-year-old woman.

Police said the operator of the Toyota sedan was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The operator of the Honda was last listed in serious condition, while the driver of the Toyota pickup remained on scene and was not injured.

Police said speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved.

The traffic fatality is the third so far this year on Oahu compared to five at the same time last year.
