Suspect in deadly Waimanalo Beach Park fight released pending investigation

Police are at the scene of an apparent homicide at Waimanalo Beach Park, a Honolulu Police Department spokesperson confirmed.

WAIMANALO (HawaiiNewsNow) - Police have released the suspect accused in a deadly altercation at Waimanalo Beach Park on Tuesday.

Authorities previously identified the suspect as 37-year-old Sean Niau. He was booked on suspicion of murder but on Thursday, police confirmed he had been released pending investigation.

HPD launched a homicide investigation, saying two homeless men got into a fight over a woman. Following the fight, a 44-year-old man was transported to the hospital and was later pronounced dead.

Officials said investigators were called to the scene at about 12:20 p.m.

The victim has not yet been officially identified.
