HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Heartbreak in Manoa — the Rainbow Warriors volleyball team suffered their first loss of the season and eliminated from the Big West Conference tournament in their semifinal loss to UC San Diego at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center on Friday night.

After a first round bye, the ‘Bows got off to a hot start after putting away the first set 22-25, but the Tritons came to play, taking set two 25-23 — with Hawaii committing six hitting errors and seven serving errors.

UH would again easily take set three 16-25, but UCSD would respond with a 25-23 win in set four to force a fifth, with the Tritons ultimately getting the win — UH had match point three times.

Hawaii’s Patrick Gasman led the ‘Bows with 17 kills, while Rado Parapunov added 16 kills with 13 errors.

The Tritons now face the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara in the Big West Conference Championship on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Hawaii time on Spectrum Sports.

For the ‘Bows, their fate is now in the hands of the NCAA selection committee to see if they get a bid to the NCAA Tournament — there are two at-large spots in the seven-team bracket.
