HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Max Holloway kicked off his 2021 with a dominant performance against Calvin Kattar in the main event of UFC Fight Island on ABC, getting the victory via unanimous decision.
The three judges scored the fight 50-43, 50-43, 50-42 all in favor of the Waianae native who had a career performance in Abu Dhabi.
Holloway got off to a fast start and showed no signs of stopping, pouring it on early and often through five rounds, possibly earning himself another shot at the featherweight title, taking on the winner of the next title bout between the current champion Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega in March.
Holloway’s historic night broke several UFC records, according to UFC stats, the Blessed Express landed a record 445 significant strikes, shattering the previous record of 290 that Holloway set himself at UFC 231.
The 141 significant strikes landed in the fourth round by Holloway was also the most in a single round in UFC history.
The history continues, as Saturday’s UFC event was the first event to be televised on ABC.
