Police: Motorcyclist failed to stop at a stop sign moments before deadly crash

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A motorcyclist is dead following a crash on the Big Island Friday afternoon.

Hawaii County Police say the collision happened just before 4 p.m. Friday in the Hawaiian Paradise Park area.

Officers say the motorcyclist was heading south on 24th Avenue and failed to stop at a stop sign on Maku’u Drive. That’s when he broadsided a truck.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and was unconscious when first responders arrived on scene. Hewas taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

The driver of the truck was not injured. An investigation revealed that speed and inattention to driving were factors in the crash.

The victim’s name has not been yet released.

This is the second fatal traffic collision of the year over on Hawaii Island, compared to one the same time last year.
