HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 21-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter in the death of his 4-month-old daughter in Wahiawa.
According to newly released court documents, the girl died from multiple abusive traumatic injuries, primarily to the head.
She also suffered multiple acute and healing rib fractures.
The girl died in October.
Her father, Elias Vargas, claimed that she choked while drinking milk, became unresponsive and stopped breathing, according to court documents. He also told investigators he put the girl into a baby swing and briefly saw her hit her head on it.
The case was initially classified as an unattended death. But after receiving the autopsy report, authorities arrested Vargas this week.
