HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Maui Interscholastic League announced on Wednesday the cancellation of all of their fall and winter sports for the rest of the school year, MIL officials said.
In a statement, league officials say many factors went into the decision to not conduct seasons for multiple sports this academic school year, which was made by an MIL Executive Board — made up of all member-school’s principals and athletic directors.
MIL fall and winter sports affected include:
- Air riflery
- Cross country
- Canoe paddling
- Girls volleyball
- Swimming and diving
- Junior varsity softball
- Junior varsity baseball
The release went on to say that the league’s focus moving forward is to a safe way to hold a spring season for the 2021 school year.
“The MIL will now move forward to the possibility of Spring season sports which include baseball, golf, softball, tennis, track and field, judo, surfing, girls water polo and boys volleyball.” League officals said in the statement. “The Spring sports missed competition in SY19-20 due to the onset of COVID19. This will be the focus of the MIL moving forward.”
