HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii’s Max Holloway (21-6) is the set to face Calvin Kattar (22-4) in the main card of UFC Fight Night in Abu Dhabi.
Not only is this Holloway’s return to ‘Fight Island’, it is also the return of UFC to network television. The match up between the two featherweights is to be simulcast on ESPN and ABC — the first time the UFC has been on a network since 2018, that event was on FOX.
The Waianae native is coming off of two consecutive controversial losses to Alexander Volkanovski — the current Featherweight champ — and will be making his first non-title fight appearance in five years.
Despite the tough streak for the 29-year-old, Holloway is one of the most decorated fighters in the featherweight division, with the longest winning streak (14), most wins (16), and most finishes (8) ever in his division.
On the other hand, Calvin Kattar is a rising star in the featherweight division, currently ranked sixth overall after winning two fights in a row and four of his last five bouts — his most recent victory coming by unanimous-decision over fellow local boy Dan Ige back in July.
Although there is no title on the line next Saturday, the winner of the fight puts them in a good position for a shot at the featherweight belt.
Max Holloway and Calvin Kattar face off on Fight Island, January 16th at 10:00 am Hawaii time, on ESPN and ABC.
