HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - An upper level low will remain near the islands for the first half of the week, and could help to enhance some shower activity during that time. Trade winds are expected to become more widespread today, and strengthen later in the week. An increase of shower coverage is expected towards the middle of the week as leftover frontal moisture rides in with the trade winds.
A small, short period north swell bring a bump to waves on north facing shores Tuesday, with a moderate, long period northwest swell expected Wednesday night and Thursday. A similar sized NW swell may reach the islands over the weekend. Small background swell from the southern hemisphere will bring little surf along south facing shores. Trade wind swell will increase along east facing shores midweek.
