HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Olive Garden, the popular mainland Italian eatery, is planning to open its restaurant at Ala Moana Center on Thursday evening, a spokesperson for the company tells Hawaii News Now.

The restaurant, which will open in the old Bubba Gump’s space across from California Pizza Kitchen, has been renovated to feature the chain’s usual Italian decor, the company says.

The public opening of the restaurant is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Union MAK, the local franchisee for Olive Garden, is also the Hawaii owner of the IHOP and Applebee’s restaurants. A second location has been planned for Kapolei, at the Ka Makana Alii shopping plaza.

Olive Garden, known for its popular never-ending pasta bowl promotion, did not previously operate a Hawaii location.
