HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Officials said there are now 32 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among students at Lanai High & Elementary School.
That figure is more than double the total last week.
The rapid rise in cases comes as authorities scramble to address a COVID-19 outbreak on Lanai.
The island is under a stay-at-home order and mass testing is underway.
Lanai High & Elementary is the island’s only public school and had been offering blended learning to students in lower grades until cases began to emerge.
Authorities say they do not believe the cases at Lanai High & Elementary are the result of spread on campus, since no teachers or employees have tested positive.
Rather, they believe the student cases are related to household spread.
