HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Big Island woman was crowned Miss Collegiate America 2020 Saturday night.
It’s the first time any Hawaii contestant has won in it’s 11-years.
21-year old Ronelle Valera, of Laupahoehoe won the national competition in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The competition serves to highlight the goals of young women, and celebrates their pursuit of higher education.
Valera, a 2017 graduate of Kamehameha Schools in Keaau, is a Warner Pacific University student in Portland. There, she’s studying social work.
Through winning the title, she was given a total of $100,000 in scholarships, trips, wardrobe, travel, and more. She also won a brand new JL Jeep Wrangler Sport.
