HFD battles multiple fires in Leeward Oahu, putting some residents on edge

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu firefighters were kept busy Saturday working to put out multiple fires in Leeward Oahu a growing brush fire in Leeward Oahu Saturday afternoon.

One large fire was located near the Salvation Army’s Kroc Center.

Honolulu police have shut down Kualakai Parkway in both directions from Kapolei Parkway to Keahumoa.

Multiple crews were dispatched to the fire shortly after 2 p.m.

”It was pretty big, I could see it from off my balcony,” resident Kuahine Maganis said. “We was nervous that we had to get evacuated.”

Efforts to control the fire are ongoing as of 3 p.m.

Residents say they saw at least three fires in the area as dry brush provided fuel for the flames.

And in Pearl City, a brush fire was seen around 7 a.m.. HFD said it was on Lehua Avenue, and crews got the flames under control about 20 minutes later.
