HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police are investigating a fatal moped crash in Waimanalo on Thursday morning.
It happened just before 3:30 a.m. on Waikupanaha Street.
Police said a 54-year-old man was riding a moped when he lost control and crashed into a concrete median, ejecting him onto the roadway.
The victim, who was not wearing a helmet at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speed does not appear to be a factor, but police are still investigating whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
Waikupana Street was reopened around 6:15 a.m.
This is the 20th traffic death this year compared to 27 at the same time last year.
