HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Two people were hospitalized Wednesday night after a vehicle veered off the road in Mililani, crashing into a utility pole and then a tree, officials said.

The crash happened along Meheula Parkway near Kuahelani around 9:45 p.m.

According to Honolulu police, the driver was speeding when he lost control and crashed into the pole and tree.

The driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition, while his 23-year-old male passenger was seriously injured, police said.

Police said speed appears to be a factor, but it’s still unclear whether drugs or alcohol are involved.
