HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Authorities are trying to figure out how a Jeep ended up in the Ala Wai Canal on Friday morning.
The incident happened before 4:40 a.m.
Someone who lives nearby told Hawaii News Now they heard someone speeding down Nahua Street, hit the curb, then plunge into the canal.
Police said it was a male driver.
According to Emergency Medical Services, the driver got out of the jeep on his own and didn’t suffer any major injuries, but he was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Police blocked off lanes of Ala Wai Boulevard at Nahua Street. However, all lanes have since been reopened after crews removed the jeep from the canal.
