Kauai home destroyed by fire; damage estimated at $420K

KILAUEA, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A family of three lost their home in a devastating fire in Kilauea, Kauai Sunday morning.

Officials said multiple units responded to the home on A’alona Street around 10:30 a.m.

The residents were able to escape without injuries as flames quickly engulfed the home, sending smoke billowing.

Firefighters from as far as Lihue were dispatched. It took crews several hours to fully extinguish the flames. It was put out by 1:30 p.m.

The home was a total loss. Damage was estimated at $420,000.

The American Red Cross is aiding the displaced family.

No word on what sparked the fire.
