Moped rider recovering after crash in McCully area

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A moped rider who was injured late Tuesday is recovering in the hospital, officials said.

The 40-year-old male was initially hospitalized in critical condition after the crash around 10:15 p.m. His condition has since improved to serious.

Police said it happened at the intersection of McCully Street and S. Beretania. The moped rider was heading south on McCully when he was hit in the intersection by a vehicle turning left onto S. Beretania.

The intersection was closed for about two hours while police were on the scene.

Police said the moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

No arrests have been made. Police don’t suspect speed drugs or alcohol were factors.
