LIHUE, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) -Kauai businesses should keep a keen eye out for fake money.
In the past few months, Kauai police say there’s been a rise in businesses alerting them about customers coming in with counterfeit cash.
Fake $100, $50 and $20 bills marked with red Chinese characters have been circulating.
Officials say the phony bills were created for Chinese banks as a training tool so tellers could recognize and count American currency.
KPD says the fake bills have been around for a few years after they reportedly got into the wrong hands and sold on the internet, the Garden Island reports.
Call police to report the money if you come across a false bill.
