HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man walked into a licensed care home in Kalihi, shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself in a murder-suicide on Thursday, Honolulu police said.
The shooting happened about 2:40 p.m. at a home near the intersection of School Street and Kamehameha IV Road.
It wasn’t immediately clear who pulled the trigger. But authorities said two patients were inside the licensed residential care home when at least three shots were fired. Neither of the patients was injured.
“We did find a female in her mid- to late-forties who appeared to have been injured by a gunshot wound,” said Capt. Bobby Towne, of the Honolulu Police Department.
The woman died a short time later at the Queen’s Medical Center.
A man was also found dead in the home, police said.
A family member who was in the home called 911.
Officers secured the property and are trying to piece together the details of what led up to the shooting.
