MAUI, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) -Maui police have arrested and identified three suspects in an investigation initially classified as an attempted murder case.
Their arrests came after an incident at the Kehalani Longs Drugs on Tuesday.
Police say one of the suspects, 30-year-old Ricco Pacheco, allegedly drove toward police officers, almost hitting one.
The other two suspects were identified as Tasha Coppa, 31, and Jakob Priest, 31.
“As officers approached the vehicle and identified themselves as law enforcement, Pacheco, who was in the driver’s seat, was seen challenging the officers. He revved the engine before driving forward colliding into an unmarked police vehicle which was parked nearby. The officer who was standing next to the police vehicle had to shuffle away from both vehicles to avoid being struck,” Maui police said in a news release.
Upon arresting the suspects and searching the vehicle, officers found crystal methamphetamine.
Pacheco was arrested for first-degree attempted murder, parole violation, resisting an order to stop, and other charges.
Coppa faces a charge of hindering prosecution and remains in custody. Meanwhile, Priest was taken in on a drug charge. He has been released pending investigation.
