More gorgeous weather ahead

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Comfortable trade wind conditions will hold through Friday with showers favoring windward and mauka areas, mainly at night and through the early morning hours. Leeward areas will remain mostly dry, although leeward sections of the Big Island will see a few showers develop each afternoon then diminish during the evening hours. An increase in trade wind showers is expected Friday night through Saturday night, mainly to windward sections of the Big Island and Maui. The trades will also increase a notch across the entire state as the trough moves through. Moderate to locally breezy trades will then hold in place Sunday through early next week, with more of a typical trade wind weather pattern expected, favoring windward and mauka showers.

A large open ocean swell is headed our way from the South Pacific, generated by large storm system well south of New Zealand and Samoa a couple of days ago. Fore-runners from this swell are expected to reach our southern shores Thursday afternoon. The swell is forecast to peak Friday advisory level surf is just about a sure thing. A moderate size northwest swell is due Saturday night and Sunday.
