Yamazaki hopes to be springboard between Japan and Hawaii

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Growing up in Japan Maaki Yamazaki had two dreams, one was playing baseball and the other was coming to Hawai’i.

The Tokyo native was able to accomplish both when he suited up to play infield for the Rainbow Warriors in 2018 after transferring from Tokyo International University in Saitama, Japan.

It didn’t take Yamazaki long to make his presence known, as a shortstop his Junior season he received all Big-West first team honors and was one of just two players to start all 51 games.

As he closes his career in Manoa Yamazaki he hopes to be a springboard for other Japanese players to make the trip over the Pacific Ocean an play for the Rainbow Warriors.
