WAIKIKI, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) -A boat that’s been listing in Waikiki waters for almost two months is now on land at the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor.
Part of the Navatek II′s stern is hanging over the water as the large vessel sits at one of the gateways to Hawaii’s tourism hotspot.
“It is the laughing stock of anyone who lives in the area. It’s just another example of what’s wrong with government," longtime Waikiki resident Dave Moskowitz told Hawaii News Now on Friday,
The removal process began on Wednesday.
The vessel was impounded after its owners racked up $16,000 in mooring fees.
Those who use the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor say what’s happened to the Navatek is an all-too frequent problem at the site.
The state will now try to auction the boat off.
If there aren’t any buyers, the state will have to pay to dispose of it.
Once seen in Hollywood productions, the Navatek II was once considered a model in maritime vessels.
