‘Bows lose in blowout fashion to UC Santa Barbara

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Rainbow Warrior baseball team were blown out at home Saturday night, losing 11-1 to UC Santa Barbara at Les Murakami Stadium.

Hawaii (20-26, 8-12 BWC) surrendered four first-inning runs and never recovered as the Gauchos tacked on another run in the second followed by three in the fourth to go up 8-0 early.

The 'Bows broke through to score in the fifth inning when Ethan Lopez knocked his fifth home run of the season.

Two more runs in the sixth put the Gauchos at double digits with a 10-1 edge before a single run in the ninth made it 11-1 in favor of the visitors.

Aaron Davenport started on the mound for UH, going 1.1 innings and allowing five on eight hits. Li'i Pontes went the next 2.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits. Dominic DeMiero pitched the final 5.0 inning, striking out three while giving up three runs on seven hits.

UCSB starter Jack Dashwood pitched 7.0 strong innings, yielding one run on two hits to earn the win.

The Warriors and Gauchos will close their three-game series on Sunday with a 1:05 p.m. HT game at Les Murakami Stadium where seniors Colin Ashworth, Dominic DeMiero, Kash Koltermann, Ethan Lopez and Maaki Yamazaki will be honored on Senior Day.
