HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An East Oahu hiking trail that was set to close for two weeks so that several utility poles could be replaced is re-opening ahead of schedule.

The Wiliwilinui Ridge Trail shut down earlier this month so Hawaiian Electric Company crews could replace eight 40-year-old wooden utility poles with new steel ones.

Those work crews finished faster than expected, and the trail will be open for business again on Saturday.

Vehicles and heavy equipment that were needed for the repairs had to remain onsite because of the terrain, forcing the trail closure.
