Teen girl hit by vehicle in Pearl City was nearly a week away from graduation

PEARL CITY (HawaiiNewsNow) - Family members opened up about the teen girl hit by a vehicle in Pearl City Tuesday night.

Family members said 17-year old Victoria Arellano was walking home from extracurricular activities when she was struck in a crosswalk on Waimano Home Road.

It happened around 9 p.m. Police said a 49-year-old man was driving his vehicle southbound on Waimano Home Road and overtook another vehicle that was stopped in traffic.

As he approached Kuahaka Street, he struck Arellano, who was walking across the street in a crosswalk.

Her family says she’s a senior at Waipahu High School, and she was on track to graduate next week.

At last check, she remained hospitalized in critical condition.

The driver who hit her did stop and render aid. As of Wednesday night, he has not been charged.

Arellano’s family will address the media Thursday.
