HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Police have launched a homicide investigation after hunters discovered a body Wednesday in a heavily-wooded area near Enchanted Lake.
The discovery of the body, which was later identified only as that of an adult male, was reported to police just after 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
Sources close to the investigation tell Hawaii News Now that the man’s hands were bound and he had been beaten.
Authorities said the body had “suspicious injuries,” but declined to elaborate.
“Apparently, several hunters located an unidentified male that was obviously deceased, and he had some suspicious injuries on his person,” said HPD Lt. Deena Thoemmes.
"We don’t know who he is yet. And if the public has any information, they can call Crimestoppers if they wish to. But at this point, he’s just an adult male is all we have.”
The hunters were hiking in an area off Old Kalanianaole Road near the intersection with Aleka Place. The area where the body was discovered is on the Olomana side, just off a designated trail.
Police on Wednesday afternoon said the area where the body was found is about a 10- to 15-minute walk from the road.
Authorities declined to say how long they suspected the body had been there.
