HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A grand jury has handed down an indictment against a retired Big Island police officer accused of stealing drug evidence.

The 10 counts against Brian Miller includes various drug and gambling charges.

The investigation began in 2017 when it was discovered that cocaine recovered as evidence three years earlier turned out to be lighter than when it was first seized.

A second retired officer was also indicted in connection with the same case.

Chad Fukui is charged with hindering prosecution, criminal conspiracy, and tampering with evidence.

Hawaii Police Chief Paul Ferreira told the Hawaii Tribune-Herald after the indictment came down that “it is what it is. If officers are doing wrong, we’re going to prosecute.”
