HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Saint Francis had one chance to end its season, and program, the right way and the Saints took full advantage of the opportunity, defeating Waimea 10-4 Saturday night in the DII state championship game at Vidinha Stadium on Kauai.
The school announced its closure a few months ago, giving the Saint Francis boys baseball team one last opportunity to shine.
Makana Poole went 2-of-2 from the batter’s box, scoring two runs while recording two doubles on the night. Brayden Nomura had an excellent day on the mound for the Saints, throwing seven innings while allowing just one run with eight strikeouts.
With the win, the boys team joins the school’s softball and boys volleyball teams as state champions this season.
