HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - For the seventh-straight fight, BJ Penn finds himself on the losing side of the Octagon.

The UFC Hall of Famer and Hilo native lost to UFC veteran Clay Guida Saturday night at UFC 237 in Brazil by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28 and 29-27).

In the first round of the fight, Penn started to look a bit like his old self by pressing forward and bringing the fight to Guida. However, his cardio couldn’t keep up with Guida as the rounds went on, allowing Guida to dictate the pace over the final 10 minutes.

Penn (16-14-2 MMA, 12-13-2 UFC) is now 1-9-1 in his last 11 fights and hasn’t won since a first round KO win over Matt Hughes back in 2010 at UFC 123.

With the loss, Penn now has lost a record seven consecutive UFC fights. He is 1-9-1 in his past 11 and has not earned a victory since knocking out Matt Hughes at UFC 123 in 2010.
