It’s the latest Hawaii route to be added to Southwest’s Hawaii destinations. The highly-anticipated airliner already announced plans to fly to Kona, Maui and Oahu.
A Southwest spokesperson said the team was on Hawaii Island Saturday for the launch of the Kona route on Sunday, and they decided to make the announcement in front of the large crowd that gathered.
Specifics on ticket sales weren’t immediately clear, though they are hoping to start it up before the end of the year.
Hilo’s ITO is the fifth airport in the islands serviced by Southwest.
Down the road, travelers are anxiously awaiting details on flights to Lihue. Details on that route are also still being ironed out.
