HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Rainbow Wahine softball team split its doubleheader against UC Davis Thursday night (2-1, 3-7) at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Brittany Hitchcock earned the complete game win in Game 1, pitching a full 12 innings, improving to 20-7 on the season after recording 13 strikeouts while allowing just one run on five hits.
Cheeks Ramos drove in the game-winning run for the walk-off win in extra innings.
With the win, Hitchcock set a new career-high for wins in a season and became just the 13th pitcher in program history to record 20 wins in a single season.
In the nightcap of the evening, Hawaii wasn’t as successful on the mound.
Izzy Dino threw just 2.2 innings as she allowed two runs on four hits with one walk. Ashley Murphy, who came in for relief, took the loss.
Dino was pulled in the third inning as the Aggies homered three times including solo-shots from Marissa Jauregui and Meghan Bradbury.
Mathematically, the Game 2 loss gives Cal State Fullerton the Big West crown and the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The Wahine entered the week needing to sweep all three games and the Titans needed to lose all three games to be the champions of the BWC.
The two teams will square off in the final game of the series on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. HT at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. It will be Senior Night for the Rainbow Wahine as they recognize seven seniors—Heather Cameron, Brittany Hitchcock, Jennifer Iseri, Jenna Kumabe, Nicole Lopez, Carly Piña, and Alyssa Sojka.
