HALEIWA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 34-year-old woman was seriously injured Wednesday after suffering an apparent shark bite while in waters three miles off Haleiwa, first responders said.
A Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokeswoman said paramedics were called to Haleiwa Boat Harbor about 9:20 a.m. for what was initially reported as a spear injury.
But as she was being treated, the woman ― an Oahu resident ― said she’d actually suffered a shark bite while in the water about three miles offshore.
It’s unclear if the woman was with a group or by herself during the apparent bite.
The woman was taken to a hospital in serious condition, and authorities are investigating.
