HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - In what was a busy weekend in high school sports across Hawaii, new champions were crowned in softball, boys volleyball and girls water polo.
The HHSAA DI Boys Volleyball Championships saw Punahou take down Iolani in four sets, winning its eighth consecutive state crown and 37th in school history. In DII action, Saint Francis repeated as champions buy taking down Kapaa in four sets.
Moving from the court to Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium, Iolani dominated Leilehua in the HHSAA DI Softball Championships in a landslide victory, 17-2.
The win marked the first time the Raiders have earned the softball crown since 2000.
In Division II, Saint Francis also picked up a softball title over the weekend as the Saints defeated Kohala 4-1 to close out the final chapter in the school’s softball history. Saint Francis is set to close its doors at the end of the school year.
Transitioning to pool for girls water polo, the undefeated Buffanblu of Punahou made a splash in the HHSAA Girls Water Polo Championships, taking down ILH rival Kamehameha for the school’s 12th state title in a row.
