Hawaii falls to Long Beach State in quest for NCAA Men’s Volleyball title

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Long Beach State defeated the Rainbow Warrior volleyball team in its quest for an NCAA Championship, winning in four sets (23-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23) at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach.

Hawaii won the first set before the 49ers stormed back and took the next three consecutive sets for the win.The Warriors were led by outside hitter Stijn Van Tilburg’s 11 kills while opposite Rado Parapunov tallied 10 kills.

The loss ended a historic season for the Warriors (28-3) who set program records for most wins, longest win streak and longest set win streak - a new NCAA-record.

The tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award went to TJ DeFalco, who registered 20 kills to guide the 49ers to back-to-back titles.

Hawaii’s senior class of Brett Rosenmeier, Dalton Solbrig, Stijn van Tilburg and Joe Worsley finished as the winningest class in program history with 90 wins.
