'Bows advance to championship game after defeating Lewis in semi-finals

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Rainbow Warrior volleyball team is headed to the NCAA Championship game for just the second time in program history.

The 'Bows took down Lewis on Thursday night in Long Beach ― winning 3-1 (25-15, 25-17, 30-32, 25-16) in the NCAA Tournament semi-finals.

In the championship game, Hawaii will face off against the winner of Long Beach State vs. Pepperdine.

On Thursday night, with plenty of Hawaii pride in the stands, the ‘Bows jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage and had match point on seven occasions in the third frame.

However, Lewis did not go down without a fight. Hawaii allowed Lewis to steal the third set 32-30, forcing a fourth set.

But the ‘Bows regained their composure in the fourth to take the win to advance.

Colten Cowell led Hawaii with 15 kills while Rado Parapunov and Stijn Van Tilburg managed 11 kills each.

First serve of Saturday’s title game is set for 2 p.m. Hawaii time.

The match will be broadcast live on ESPN.
