A large donation will help Hawaii’s first Christian church with preservation efforts

KAILUA-KONA (HawaiiNewsNow) -Hawaii’s first Christian church just received a huge donation.

The Mokuaikaua Church in Kailua-Kona is a landmark on Hawaii Island. It was given a matching donation of $450,000 from a Canadian donor.

The money will help fund critical preservation work at the historic site.

Mokuaikaua Church was built in 1837 and was named one of the country’s 11th Most Endangered Historic Sites.

The stone structure is anchored by massive cornerstones that were re-purposed from ancient heiau on land given by Kamehameha the Second.
