HFD: Brush fire above Diamond Head Rd. started at homeless camp

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu firefighters extinguished a small brush fire on the mountain above Diamond Head Road early Monday.

According to HFD, the fire broke out around 2:15 a.m. near Leahi Beach Park.

It took a while for the six responding firefighters to climb the mountain to get to the fire, but they managed to extinguish it by 3:40 a.m.

Fire officials said the fire started at a homeless encampment.

A portion of Diamond Head Road was closed, but it has since been reopened.
