Wahine water polo wins 1st Big West championship since 2015

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - For the first time since 2015, the Rainbow Wahine water polo team are Big West champions.

Hawaii took down defending conference champions UC Irvine today in California by a score of 7-6, exacting revenge on the Anteaters who beat the โ€˜Bows in last yearโ€™s title game.

With the win, Hawaii has now earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament which starts May 10th in Stanford, California.

For the second game in a row, Irene Gonzalez found herself on the scoreboard while Elyse Lemay-Lavoie recorded a hat-trick on just five shots.

Hawaii goalkeeper Molly DiLalla allowed five goals on the afternoon while recording six saves while Bridget Layburn recorded 10 saves of her own.

With the win, UH has earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament which kicks off May 10 in Stanford, California.
